Rock and play?!

Hey mama's! Just curious to see other moms opinions out there about the rock and play. No your not gonna hurt my feelings if you try to bash me lol. I know they have been recalled. My question is how many of you would still use it ?!. For example NOT to sleep in but just to have in the living room as another option to put little one down in instead of the swing or chair. Who is totally against it and why since little one wouldn't be sleeping in it. And who says go for it?!

It was recalled because baby’s died because PARENTS didn’t use the product correctly. However, it was also the companies fault for advertising it as a sleeping product. If you’re going to use it as you said, with baby awake and just a place to set them down, I would use it.

I would use it. My doctor also told me bed-sharing is very unsafe . I know many people who have be shared ( including myself.) Know your risks when using any baby products and decide from there... you are informed of the risks. . . You ask the parent decide what to do once informed.

I have my rock n play from my first. So here’s my take- they are recalled bc of many reasons. Some bc they weren’t buckling babies and they flipped out and got injured or flipped over and suffocated. Now there were also cases where baby was buckled properly and had died from positional asphyxiation. So with all that being said- the rock n play was never intended for sleep- I’m guilty of that with my first. My son is 5 months old and I do put him in it. I am always supervising and constantly checking him. He hasn’t started rolling yet- when he does then I won’t pony him in it anymore.

I still use mine for my 2nd, mostly like when I need to set him down but keep him in plain sight and near by.  I wouldn’t leave him alone or leave the room with him in it.

I took my to Target for the recall and got the money from it. I didn't use it for overnight sleep, though he would occasionally fall asleep in it, but mostly while I was showering so I could see him. I heard too many stories about babies who got their faces stuck against it or had positional asphyxiation and didn't think it was worth the risk. We have a swing and I really don't think both are necessary.

Please read this article that came out recently by consumer reports. They explain that babies died even when parents used it correctly but they made it seem in the news like babies only died when not buckled properly, etc. https://www.consumerreports.org/child-safety/while-they-were-sleeping/. Fisher price should be ashamed for how they handled the recall and the messaging that all the babies that died were parents were using it incorrectly (which has been shown to be not true!) 
With my second, I also thought I would by okay using the rock n play if I was supervising him but now  after researching I would never take the chance with any inclined sleeper.
