What are y'all opinions on showing kids a scary movie by age?

Depends on the kid and the movie.  My daughter LOVED Jurassic park by the time she was about 3. I only let her watch it on cable, to tone down the intensity a bit.  My other daughter is 15 and still scared to watch it. Intensely Scary movies were a no though

Look up how viewing violence psychologically effects small children. There are many studies done. One showed that when children were shown violence and trauma and then were sent into a room for playtime they were MUCH rougher with the dolls they were given than those who viewed non violent things were with their dolls. As for horror, which often includes violence, I am a teacher as well and there are kids who can’t understand the difference between what is real or not real. It’s just not necessary and viewing things that are traumatic alters the brain. I’m pretty strict about this stuff with my own son.

I watched the amityville horror movies when I was in elementary school and I regret it to this day..at 33. So many nightmares, sleeping on parents floor for years, terrified of the dark, couldnt go anywhere in my house alone for years. Also tremors, I literally wouldn't touch the ground outside for weeks.

Not okay. I teach kindergarten and not only do the kids who watch it come to school and can’t get it off their minds, then they start freaking out all the other kids by talking about it. There’s a reason those movies are rated R.

I think it depends on the child. My friends kids love scary movies and they are 6 and 8 but I don’t let my son watch any scary movies because it gives him horrible nightmares and he’s 8.

I watched Alien when I was 4 and had no issues. My SIL saw Gremlins when she was 5 and slept in her parents room until she was 9. It all depends. 🙃🤷🏼‍♀️
