It’s detrimental and the AAP heavily advises against it. There are other methods and it’s banned in over 50 other countries. I’m not doing that to my kid.

No, I believe it is confusing if you’re trying to teach a child that hitting is never ok in any circumstance (even if the other kid did something wrong like take a toy from you or whatever) and yet you hit them when they do something wrong.

Yep, me and my husband did great with them and I know other kids in my family and my husbands family that still get them so we will be spanking our son if need be

Personally no, ive never spanked my daughter and she behaves very well. I couldn’t do that. I won’t judge those that do as long as theyre not abusing their children or taking it too far. But I will say that I think it’s pointless to spank your childnfor say hitting another kid. That’s a very confusing message you’re sending by hitting your kid to try and teach them hitting is wrong lol

My son isn't at an age where spanking has even crossed my mind yet (17 months) but i will say my dad raised me alone and he spanked me A LOT. Most of my memories from childhood were me being grounded and spanked. Seriously. He raised me well as far as manners and not being a shit person, but i think he relied on intimidation as his parenting style. I have negative memories and feelings surrounding my upbringing and I know I don't want that for my son. I have seen already with him that speaking calmly and being consistent with boundaries works wonders. While spanking kept me in line, i guess, it also made me shut off from my father and I just fell in line to avoid conflict. Like I said my son is young and I don't spank him. I think behavior can be managed without physical punishment with consistency. I want my son to feel safe and trust me his entire upbringing.

A pop on the bum, not so much an actual smack or slap. My mom used to be spanking queen, I remember how awful that was for me but.. I do not at all do what she did but I do 1009% believe if a kid goes TOO far past the word no, a pop in the butt is ok.
