Do you rock your baby to sleep?

Question

My little guy will be 8 months tomorrow. He’s not a long baby but he’s getting a bit large for me to rock him in the glider in our nursery. I get caught up in our routine that I forget that I want him to start putting himself to sleep. Any tips on getting him to sleep himself? TIA

I had to rock my son for all naps and bedtime until a few weeks ago. Physically it was taking it’s toll especially since he’s around 22 lbs. Also, it was just taking longer and longer for him to fall asleep that way. 
I stopped rocking him and put in place other associations to help him soothe himself and get sleepy. I cuddle him for a few minutes before we go in the room, turn on his light projector, give him his taggy blanket and pacifier and lay him down. Then I wait usually around 10 minutes before I go back in to take his blanket, and turn off the projector. I’ll pat his butt and say ‘shh’ and then leave again and usually he’s settled down enough he’ll fall right to sleep. 
My sons never been a crier so we had to find a method to get him out of play mode and able to self soothe. I hope you find what works for you!

Yep 3rd child and I’ve never learnt how to get a baby to sleep without rocking 🤦🏻‍♀️
I have no idea how you do it! I rock her to sleep at every nap, bedtime, every time she wakes in the night 😩 it was the same with my boys but I don’t do it for them now so it stopped at some point! 
I’ve learnt many things having 3 with feeding, learning, routines etc but getting a baby to sleep is a skill I just don’t seem to possess! 😬

I've had it easy and when my daughter is sleepy I give her a minute of cuddles and kisses and I'll put her in her crib and she'll just go to sleep as soon as I shut the door. At most she'll cry for a minute or two but usually she goes down really easy.

We had the Snoo, which rocks baby all night. To break the association we rocked her to settle her, put her down sleepy/happy but AWAKE and then let her fall asleep on her own. So if she fell asleep before we put her down, we gently rubbed her chest to wake her up, and then put her down.

My daughter falls asleep during her last bottle every night and I put her to bed after and she stays asleep, even if I change her diaper before laying her in bed. If she's tired enough just giving her the pacifier and laying her in the bed usually does the trick for naps. She will literally fall asleep in her walker when she's tired 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hardly ever have to rock her, maybe if she wakes up upset and crying.

No, but I don't think we ever did. When he was tiny we bounced with him in the yoga ball or put him in the carrier so I guess that's like rocking? He falls asleep on his own for night time, and nurses to sleep or in the stroller for his two naps.
