If/when you post personal things on social media, does that automatically open the door for others to comment and you not offended?

I ask because I don’t have social media (other than this app)/never have and my mother posts so much off the wall things daily. She then goes back and forth for HOURS with people who comment. This goes for any of my siblings who comment disagreeing with her. I just want other viewpoints on what people think because I wholeheartedly feel as though my mother has no say so over how people comment on her post/disagreeing with it (unless it’s threatening or demeaning).

People are free to comment or post whatever they want, but that doesn’t mean what they share isn’t offensive. You aren’t inviting people to say offensive things freely just because it’s social media.

I mean, yes , because if we are posting something then we are opening the door for this kind of comment.
But you gotta have some air instead of brain in your skull if you think that it is acceptable to comment negatively on what someone posts about themselves on their personal page. I kind of understand with influencers because their job involves attention to what they do, but a normal person with a personal page? No.

I see it the same way as I would a face to face convo. Sharing your opinions with other people doesn’t warrant aggressive or offensive responses. Things can be talked about in a civil way and people like to get courageous beyond a keyboard.

People will add their two cents whether it’s wanted or not. I believe you can delete unwanted comments on Facebook

This is why you don’t post personal things on social media. There is a value in your privacy. I think it does open the door for people to comment because you put it out there, but it doesn’t also make it ok for anyone to just be rude.

Anything you post you should expect to get comments on and they many not all be nice. That doesn’t make it right to post or comment in a rude or offensive way. If you don’t want negative comments or comments that don’t agree with you then don’t post. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ugh. A "friend" of mine posted some nasty crap of FB, tagging the lady she was talking about, and then got 100000% pissed when people called her out.  Post on PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA  and hold on to your hat

I don't post anything personal on my social media. I dont even post my partner because I dont like to be open to anyone and everyone and because I don't want input from others about my life.
