Flu vs coronavirus. I know it’s annoying but I have a question

So I’m in Ontario, I’m not too worried about coronavirus honestly. But people have been comparing it to the flu and saying the flus worse. Here’s what I don’t understand. The flu killed 14,000 in the year of 2019. But the coronavirus has killed almost 4,000 in the 2-3 months its started. So wouldn’t this be considered more dangerous? Since it seems it’s steadily climbing the death poll each day? I’m just confused by this because I’ve heard it’s worse and that it’s not worse. Regardless I’m just gonna keep washing my hands like normal and living life
