Colposcopy - 2020- my honest experience

Unavailable

Ladies,

I have had 2 colposcopies. First I had an abnormal papsmear and then had my first colposcopy. Waited a year and had another abnormal pap. So, I came up positive for HPV 16 so i needed another colposcopy.

My first colposcopy was uncomfortable, some pressure, and definitely sudden onset of cramps. Just in case, i brought another person with me to drive me home but thankfully i was ok. No biggie. Just temporary discomfort. No bleeding.

My second one was VERY different. They did several biopsies and each one was more painful than the last. I was crying and pulling away from the doctor. She asked that i try to keep my hips down and remain still. I just kept shaking after that first sample. Had i knew this would be so awful i would not have gone alone. After everyone left the room i gathered myself through the tears despite feeling like a tool raped me. This was a horrible experience to say the least.

At my follow up i will ask why the difference in the first procedure versus this one. I can only for now assume that the samples needed were very deep inside me and i also had a lot of cervical mucus they needed to wipe away because i was ovulating. Lots of bleeding during all this. Two days after the procedure and I'm still not feeling 100%.

Anyone else have varying experiences like me? I read up about the colposcopy before i had my first one but i feared more with the first one but not the second. My mistake. After all my readings i mostly found women who said it was similar to my first experience. I wonder if me ovulating had anything to do with the intense pain as well as the biopsy itself. I just know at certain points in my cycle sex feels kind of painful and maybe this procedure fell on that type of day.

So please indulge me and let me know of your experiences. Thanks..
