Contractions?

I’m currently 38 weeks! How soon together or how strong would the contractions be to be signaling labor or the beginning of? Last night at 730 I started having them they went away, came back at 8 went away until about 3 am, went away. Although they’re not that close together, they are getting VERY painful and intense. Any advice? I don’t want to call and go to the hospital for them just to send me home?

With my first I had a sweep at 41 weeks. My partner and I had sex before bed- I woke up to contractions at 1am. I knew they were real but I also knew I’d need rest so I went back to sleep. My partner said I was ooohing through my contractions in my sleep. I woke up at 8am and they were 10 min apart. I labored around the house- in the bath, bounced on my yoga ball, swaying with my partner etc... I called when my contractions were 5 min apart. My midwife said I could come in if I wanted. By the time we left for the hospital my contractions were 3 min apart. Got there at noon, was 3cm. Had my daughter by noon. Like the other comment said - they like you to be experiencing contractions 5 minutes apart lasting a min for an hour before coming in. 5-1-1. 😊

Answer

Use the 5-1-1 rule. 5 minutes apart, last for one minute, continuing for one hour. Unless you become in more pain than you can manage.
