Does tricare cover blood test for gender?

We have tricare insurance through the military and my husband is set to deploy within the next two weeks, in a little over 12 weeks now and was wanting to get the blood test done so we can know before he goes. Does anyone know if tricare covers it? Also, how far along do you need to be to get the result?

I have Tricare through the military as well. I am not certain but I would say that no they will not cover it. They never cover anything that they don't see as medically necessary. If they only cover one ultrasound at 20 weeks I just don't see them doing any extra.

I have tricare and had the MATERNIT™ GENOME test done on Thursday. Tricare is covering it but only because I had an abnormal result on my first trimester screening. Tricare is a pain in the butt lol

Most of the manufacturers report tests should be done around the 10 week mark for moms with confirmed ultrasound dating who weigh 250 pounds or less for moms over 250 pounds, 12 weeks is recommended. Tricare does cover the testing if the rest is indicated- advanced maternal age, abnormal 1st or second trimester screening result, ultrasound finding that is abnormal, or a personal history of a child with Down syndrome, trisomy 13 or 18 or turners syndrome. The out of pocket cost can vary from $800 ( InformaSeq) to over $3k (maternit21).

I don't believe so. I am also on tricare. I had the genetic testing done but there was zero mention of the gender part. I also didn't ask because I can wait.

Not sure about tricare but I believe you can get the blood gender test pretty early
