Postpone baby shower?

Is anyone postponing or starting to think they’ll have to post pone their baby shower due to the corona precautions? My mom was just saying she’ll use the money we would have spent on the shower to buy baby items but as a first time mom its hard for me to imagine not getting all those first essentials. Anyone have any bright ideas for a polite alternative? Like still sending out your registry but just not having a gathering? I’m not sure how acceptable that is.
