Hospital space?

Hey everyone, I know you all are probably sick of hearing about this pandemic... But I need a little bit of reassurance. I plan on asking my doctor as well, but just want to see if anyone else has heard anything too. 
In the event that the hospitals are overwhelmed and over capacity (hoping that doesn't happen though with everyone social distancing!!!) the labor and delivery units are reserved for JUST expectant mother's, right? Like I won't get to the hospital and find they can't help me deliver and then I end up delivering in my car or something insane like that? 
I know that sounds silly... But honestly 2 weeks ago I could not have imagined this getting so out of hand. Trying to stay as calm as possible. Hang in there everyone! I'm sure I'm not the only one with similar concerns!

No, you will not have to deliver in your car. No you will not have to deliver in a tent in the parking lot. You will be delivery away from positive COVID patients ( This is actually depending on the hospital). At this time and for the foreseeable future they do not expect to ever share staff between units ex. OBs/L&D nurses will not be pulled to work on a COVID unit. The major noticeable change that will effect you is a restriction in visitors allowed at the hospital.

Definitely share the same worry right now. Had an incredible hospital birth experience with my first baby (praise God for the epidural) and panicking a little bit that I’m going to have to have a home birth now with everything going on. Things are changing so quickly I’m trying to stay hopeful that this will start to calm down by mid - May? 😬

I have the same fear. I just keep trying to tell myself that my fear is irrational but sometimes I’m not sure if that’s true lol. I’ve called the labor and delivery unit to ask questions and they’re so nice and reassuring. Everything keeps changing so it’s hard to stay up to date

This is 100% based on your hospital. We can’t help with that info. My hospital is so big labor and delivery is at the women’s hospital building. Not at the normal building where ER or virus patients would be checking in. However they’ve already created a separate wing for mother’s infected even though they don’t have any yet. They’re prepared for when they start getting them. They’ve also taken it as far as telling us that the doctors and nurses assigned to that wing will not be crossing paths with the ones who are in the non infected one. So there’s no way of accidentally giving it to someone there. Ask these questions for sure at your next appt.
