How long does it actually take for the sperm to meet the egg?

I’ve never known the answer to this. I feel as if it’s a common misconception that pregnancy occurs immediately after sex, but when does it actually start to meet the egg and eventually fertilize?
I wish I learned these things in sex ed 🤷🏻‍♀️

The egg is released and waits in the Fallopian tube. The sperm can get to the egg and fertilize it in seconds.
What takes time is the fertilized egg traveling through the Fallopian tubes and implanting into the uterus takes 6-12 days.
