Together not together

Ok...well....this is new for me. Iam in a 5 year relationship with a great guy. But we havent had the best 5 years. Alot of BUMPS. too many I feel to get into. So long story short after months of thinking I decided to leave. But wholehearted didn't want too because of my feelings towards this man. I love him with every inch of me. And I know he feels the same. We just cant get to a point of agreement or "solution" on certain topics of our relationship. We have been engaged on and off. Off definitely for now. Our fights are bad but bad where it DOESNT get physical. Just bad that we dont talk for days! Or even weeks. Which had just happen recently. We didnt speak for 3 weeks. Then came to the decision to date. But live together. So back at boyfriend girlfriend. Idk if this is a good thing or bad? Sex is involved. We had a talk that we wouldn't sleep with anyone but each other. I havent had ANY problems with him cheating so I personally dont think he would now. ( well I hope not) it actually feels better. We are communicating alot more and better. Is this a good idea or no?
