They confuse me

So i go to the hospital last night because i honestly thought my water might have been leaking- whatever was on my liner wasnt pee or sweat but it smelt like nothing or kinda sweet.

Get to the hospital and they seem excited because theyve had a boring night with only three women so naturally two nurses prep a rokm for me just incase.

She does the swab and then checks me- she stated

"Its closed....wait no i can put a finger in but i dont wanna tourture you. Youre cervix is super soft so it really wint be much longer" because i explained i dont know what their terms mean. I just know a soft cervix means baby will be here soon and a hard cervix means no baby yet(dont judge me😂).

Anyways she comes back and she said my water isnt leaking but explains to do exactly what i did before and call ahead so they can get my chart ready.

Im 35 weeks so really at this point its jyst a waiting game but my thing is how can i tell how much my cervix is dilated to if she didnt give me an answer? I know one finger in is 1 cm but she didnt keep checking me because she didnt want to cause discomfort.
