Nanny Pay?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but...I am currently thinking about hiring a nanny instead of daycare. Between my husband and I, she would be working 4 days a week at approximately 8-10 hours a day. I know the typical rate for a nanny is $10 an hour. But the problem is ironically, I am a nanny. Making $10 per hour. Meaning the pay I make during my job, I'll have to turn around and give every bit of that to the nanny. It would cancel out exactly. So part of me thinks I would be better off being a stay at home mom, considering I wouldn't be making anything anyways. However, do you think it would be appropriate to pay less than that? How much would you pay a nanny for a 6 week old?

If you're going to pay a nanny the same amount you make as a nanny It seems like it would make more sense for you to stay home.

Why can't you have your cake and eat it too? Watch multiple kids from your home $30 plus an hour!!! OR bring your kid to work!l!?Why does it have to be all or nothing?....especially with your experience?

It's completely unfair and unreasonable to expect another person to nanny your child for less then you make caring for someone else's. Additionally, minimum wage is almost $10 most places and you would have to pay a nanny at least that. Furthermore, anyone you could find to do the job for less than that wouldn't be very qualified. I've seen you mention it elsewhere in the thread that you couldn't take your child to work because "it's not the right environment". If it's safe for you to feel ok about caring for another child in, why in the world isn't it safe or good enough for you to take your child to? If you nanny 40 hr/week then you have some control over the environment and if it isn't good enough for your child why is it ok for someone else's? This whole post seems like you want other people to justify your desire to stay home. If you want to be a stay at home mom, go for it. Why ask the question though? There are lots of great options here that you have dismissed so it's clear what you want.

I would stay home or see if I could take the baby with me. I wouldn't work and be away from the baby while not contributing to bills.

I'm a nanny to, but when my son comes in a few weeks I'll be taking some time off. I found another family in the neighborhood looking for child care, and they'll be bringing their baby to my home to be cared for. It works out perfectly, since I'd be sitting at home watching my boy anyway!

Can you take your child with you to your nannying job? Every family I nannied for would be ok with that as long as their kids received the same level of care

I was a nanny and got paid $22/hr. Maybe keep that money and instead of raising someone else's child, stay home and raise your own. I would never pay a nanny less than $10/hr. I don't mean what I said as rude by the way, even though it can come across that way.

I am a nanny. I have been for years! $10 is on the LOW end. I NEVER take less than $12-$16 an hour. Usually $14. I would be super offended if Someone offered me less than $10.

I think you should be a stay at home mom, and find a job as a nanny. Like where the child comes to your house, some people hire a nanny who also brings their child!

I am a nanny and my minimum is 13$ an hour. I watch a newborn 45 hours a week! I would never work for 10$ that's like 8.50$ after taxes.. How could you live off of that?
