National Sibling Day

Me

Apparently, it’s national sibling day. People are posting photos of their siblings and saying some sort of nice sentiment about them.

We have a blended family making me the youngest of 5. I am my mom’s only kid and my dad adopted me when they married 23 years ago. I am not biologically related to my siblings and we never lived together (they lived with their moms), but we use the terms “brother” and “sister” and we have the same dad.

My sister (3rd in line and never liked me) posted photos and tagged the four biological siblings like I don’t even exist. She does this every year and has always left me out. It’s common for her to exclude me whenever possible. For example, one Christmas my brother received 4 wine glasses with our last name engraved on them. She said, “Perfect! One for each of us to take home!” Umm...hello - there are 5 of us. Or she’ll say things like, “dad’s real kids”.

Dad misses most of these comments because he’s either not in the room or not paying attention. He’s also not a confrontational type of person. Thankfully, we only see her 1-2 times per year and even then I don’t engage in conversation with her if I can avoid it. I tell people this crap doesn’t bother me, but it kind of bothers me. Cheers to another day being the ugly duckling.
