When did you have your first scan??

Question

Last time I was pregnant I was young and was going for an abortion and had a scan at 7 weeks. I miscarried a week later.

I just had my first doctors appointment 5w2d and she said since I'm keeping it this time I won't get a scan until the 13th week?? In New Zealand maternity care is paid for by the government so everything is free but she said if I want an earlier scan I have to pay hundreds of dollars. I'm so nervous having to wait so long until the first scan!! Would you recommend paying hundreds to see potentially not a lot??

That's normal, my first one at the doctor's office was at 13 weeks exactly.

You really don't see anything on the ultrasound before then. If your worried ask for them to check for a heartbeat after 6 weeks to put your mind at ease.

We had our first scan at 9 weeks and our second and last one which was our anatomy scan at 17 weeks.

12 w is pretty common in the US, and even with insurance can cost a few hundred dollars. If you want to see baby before pay it.

I got one at 6w3d and then again at 7w2d because i had bleeding and didnt have another til 21w4d to find out what we were having

18 weeks.. we avoid any unnecessary ultrasounds. :)
