When to look for a pediatrician?Need a pediatrician in Hackensack new jersey.

I am a ftm.due August 23rd, 2020.How soon do I need to get a pediatrician. Do I get one after my son is born?After I give birth at the hospital, does a pediatrician check the baby ,during the hospital stay ?or does the doctors in the hospital check the baby?Does the doctors in the hospital  check the baby upon  release from the hospital?Any suggestions for good pediatrician in Hackensack new jersey that take empire bc/bs?

We had to have one before giving birth because you have to see them within a few days of coming home. If the ped you pick has privileges at the hospital you are delivering at they will come see baby while in the hospital, if they don’t then the ped on call will see them. I think I looked into it about a month or two before delivering, I just gave them a call to make sure they were accepting new patients. We had to fill out some paperwork and they offered to set up an appointment for a meet and greet but the ped we picked was my boyfriend’s ped when he was a child (still practicing) so I declined that appointment.

My OB asked me who I wanted before delivery. He gave recommendations, but the lady I was considering didn’t work at the hospital I was delivering at, so I did the on call pediatrician at the hospital. Then after birth, I reached out to the lady I wanted and set up my 2 week visit with her.

We had to decide before baby was born, the pediatrician visited baby while we were on the postpartum floor in the hospital.

I had my daughter’s ped pick out before she was born.  He is an Amazing doctor and if I have another baby he will also by that baby’s doc.

I called the day the babies were born to set up their appointments. Majority of places are always accepting new patients and when you call about a newborn they can almost always get you in right away a few days after you bring home baby.

Picked her out a couple months beforehand. Hospital and my obgyn wanted the information. While at hospital, their pediatrician saw us. Took newborn to our pediatrician when we got home.

so from my experience my midwife recomended one to me. it’s important to look at them all because personally it was important for me to find one who is down to earth and realistic, non judge mental but honest. and she was just that. upon having my daughter they did like an eye and ear test i think she got a shot too i can’t remember and they do check overall health. within the first week home you make your appointment with your pediatrician of choice and from so forth.
