Nipples

How is it that my nipples and not the whole breast hurt? I haven't had anything sore around this area since I was pregnant with my last. I use to get sore breast when AF would come before I got pregnant. After my miscarriage I don't even get sore breast when AF comes but now all of a sudden just my nipples hurt. Can anybody tell me what's going on?
