Should I buy this used Medela Sonata pump?

I found a used Medela Sonata for $50 and it comes with everything it normally comes with on the website. The only issue the seller says it has is that it has to stay plugged in to work. Not a huge deal. She used it for 8 months. I’ve looked on the website and apparently you can try to reset it and get it to work but there’s a chance it won’t and it will still need plugged in to operate. Should I get it?

I know nothing about that pump, but you should never use a used one. Insurance provides one. I prefer spectra for comfort, ease of use, and ease of cleaning parts.

Aside from the infection risk of abused pump, the pump motors don’t last forever. Our lactation nurse told us about 1 year of use before it’s less effective. So it wouldn’t be worth your money to get one that was used for 8 months.

Why are you buying one? Medalas are open systems, not closed so I fed would not buy that.

No. You shouldn’t get a used pump because of risk of contamination. But even if that weren’t the case, a pump that’s been used for 8 months (and already has issues) likely will not work for much longer. They are made to be used for about a year.
