Period only lasted a couple hours?

It’s the first day of my period and I started it around 5 PM. My period is on time and i even felt slighted cramps and back pain. I took two excedrin and put a tampon in. two hours later i went to check on my tampon and pulled it out to see not much blood was on it. i placed another one in and at 12 AM i changed it again. There was barely any blood on it again. i put a new one in and at 4 AM i basically ripped it out because i wasn’t really bleeding at all. The fresh blood on the tampon was bright red, but there was also old dry blood too. this isn’t typical of the first day of my cycles, or even the spotting i have before my cycles. i’m a 21 year old and this is not normal for me at all. has anyone experienced this before?
