scripture indicates that a man shall leave his father and mother and unite with his wife. A new family unit is created. On the other hand I believe extended family is ment to be involved and supportive. We are supposed to care for elderly parents, disabled family members and even others in need etc and some times the best way is to open our homes.

Back then, sure. But in today's world, we have such a huge population in the universe that there's no need for multi generational living because we have enough people to continue on. That's just my opinion on it. I think a lot of things God did back then was necessary but it changes with the centuries.
