Help! My toddler keeps eating hair!!

My almost two year old daughter loves to eat hair and very fine, hair textured strings. It’s gotten so bad that she pulls her own hair to eat and play with it like floss. It’s always been an annoying habit but it’s getting so bad that her diaper and bowl movements are full of hair and fibers from her blankets.

I’ve removed all Muslin and flannel blankets from her crib that she chews on but I can’t (won’t) shave her head.

It honestly seems like a stemming or copping habit. She does it most when she is laying down at nap time or going to bed but if she finds a hair she’ll hide and floss with it and eat it. She hides because I take it away, not because I think she’s embarrassed. She gets mad when I take it away or dig it out of her mouth but goes about her day afterward, so it doesn’t seem so OCD where she can’t cope when it’s gone or tries to get more to satisfy this habit.

I just need some help, has anyone else gone through this with their child and they grew out of it? What are other ways to keep hair away from her?

***update***

It’s been a while but 1 month after removing her blankets and constant brushing the carpet to remove hair she let go of her hair eating habit and hasn’t had any other issues like that.

And side note: Most mental issues that cause someone to eat abnormal items do not get diagnosed until a child is at least 5, so please refrain from telling someone that their child has issues when medical professionals will not even look at your child until they are out of the toddler years because kids eat gross stuff for fun and learning.
