Can they refuse to hire me?

I’m almost 6 months pregnant and just got laid off my job. my belly isn’t really that big showing, and I applied to a bank part time, i have a interview but i’m super nervous the minute i say i’m pregnant it’s a no go. I know legally, they can’t deny you a job because of pregnancy, but they can say they’re looking at other candidates and low key deny me because they think i’m “less capable” or  going to go on maternity leave soon... Do people actually get hired this far along? It’s a job I always wanted to do and finally got a interview. Advice? The reason I have hope is because it’s part time and they will have lower expectations. Kind of nervous though

I wouldn't say anything about pregnancy unless they ask honestly.  Some places don't favor well towards pregnant women. Maybe try to apply for unemployment benefits instead of working since you were laid off if all else fails.

I lost my job a few months after I found out I was pregnant last year. The company I worked for went out of business. I got call backs for interviews because I applied for jobs I was very qualified for. In the interview I told them I was pregnant because I had weight restrictions for lifting. I went on 5 or 6 interviews and never got a call back. I called a few and they just said they went with another candidate, I I personally believe I didn't get hired because I was pregnant. They just can't come out and tell you that because it's considered discrimination.
 I get both sides of it... It sucks cuz you can't get hired anywhere worth working for while pregnant, a time when you need money more than ever. But on the other hand, thinking of when I was a manger, if I was in the situation, do I really want to spend my time training a new employee that I'm going to get a few months out of before they have to leave for 6 to 12 weeks? That may or may not come back?

I’m worried about the same thing.  I’m a contractor at my job now but they are talking about layoffs. I’m 15 weeks. I’m worried that if I am able to find another job, I won’t qualify for paid maternity leave.

They cannot ask you if you are pregnant. You have to offer that information. Don’t offer it until you sign your paperwork and have the job.

I was hired at 6 months pregnant and did not share that information at the interview. When offered the job I did share that. I let them know my due date, how long I planned on taking a maternity leave and assured them it wouldn’t be any issues with work which is wasn’t. Good luck!! Hope it all works out for you

A girl I used to work with at our hospital was hired in at 7.5 months. We trained her on everything and then she had her baby...came back and we re trained her. (Always training in a hospital lol)

I was hired at about 6 months pregnant. I told them during my interview. I also asked how long I’d get for maternity leave if they did hire me and what kind of breaks I’d have or be allowed during my shift. They hired me and also worked with me on maternity leave length. It felt good knowing how I would be treated during the interview as opposed to being nervous as the time got closer.
