My Birth Story

Landon’s Birth Story ~

I have always enjoyed reading others birth stories so I thought I would share mine!

I chose to be induced at 39 weeks because baby was measuring on the larger side. At first I was a bit sad about this because I wanted to go into labor on my own. Now having experienced an induction I will choose that again if i’m able to. I like that I was able to be prepared and not have to be in a ton of pain before I could be admitted. Anyways, I went into the hospital around 9pm on Sunday, April 12th. I filled out paperwork and all that fun stuff first. After I got changed a couple nurses came in to check me and get the process started. I was at 1cm, got my IV, hooked up to the monitors and then started the cervix softener medicine. All of this was done by 10pm. I experienced minor cramping sometime after due to the medicine. The next morning around 7 or 8 my doctor came in to break my water. I believe pitocin was started then, but could be wrong. I was 1.5cm when my water broke. I had painful contractions for about an hour or so after that. I got my epidural sometime within an hour after my water broke. I think I was so focused on not having another contraction that I didn’t notice/feel the epidural process. After the epidural kicked in I got checked again and was 2cm. This was around 9-9:30am. I went to sleep around 10am with a peanut ball on my left side. A nurse woke me up a little after 11am to check me and I was 8cm. She started to get things set up and checked me again 10-15 minutes later and I was at 10cm. At 11:19am we started to get ready to push. At 11:43am Landon made his entrance to the world! I don’t remember how many times I pushed but it wasn’t very many. The thing that took the longest was waiting for me to have contractions. The epidural was amazing! I didn’t feel anything, not even pressure and i’m so relieved it worked out for me. Everyone who knows me knows I can’t handle pain at all 😅. I was terrified of giving birth, but I couldn’t have had a better experience. I’m truly so grateful that everything worked out the way it did and Landon is healthy 💙
