The IUD?

I’m 16. I was just put on a birth control shot in February. My first shot ever. Over the past 3 months I’ve hated it. Continuous spotting and weight gain are the biggest drawbacks I’ve experienced. I do not want another shot this month but I want something that’s highly effective. I’ve been thinking about an IUD. It’s convenient and I’ve heard it’s one of the best contraceptive methods. My mom has one too. She thinks I should just switch to the pill because she I may not be able to handle the side-effects that come along with it. Girls with IUDS, how bad does it hurt when they put it in? And the side-effects too? I’m not a virgin but I’m pretty small (4”10 100lbs) and I’ve heard there are smaller ones they just don’t last as long as 7 years.
