Would you be upset if your bf went to dinner at his family’s house without? Please read

For example, I do not like one of my bfs family members due to them always being mean to me so I never feel comfortable going over. Tonight their having dinner and I decided not to go because I’m tired of feeling uncomfortable around this certain family member. My bf knows how I feel, I’ve cried to him about the mean things his family member has done to me. He still went to dinner without me tonight because he didn’t want to bail on his parents or for it to look bad. He told them I was working late that’s why I can’t come. It didn’t really bother me until after he left. I started crying cuz I Kinda feel lonely and sad I have to miss out on family dinners because of this abusive family member. I’m also extra sad as I’m missing my family back home. I moved to another state for my bf so I don’t really have anyone but him here. Should I be upset he still went or should he be taking a break from his family also like I’ve decided to do? I don’t want to be controlling that’s why I still encourage him to always spend time with his family. Thanks guys.

Think about it like this, would you want your boyfriend to keep you away and “take a break” from your family because he felt uncomfortable bout 1 PERSON in your family ? No, you should not be mad you choose not to attend. You’re grown you can choose the environments you want to be around and you choose not to go for your own peace which is absolutely fine but don’t expect him to cancel out his whole family over one persons poor behavior.

No. You CHOSE not to go. He shouldn’t have to skip out on seeing his family because you chose not to go. Stop being sensitive. Ignore the person.

Neither. You shouldn’t be upset he went, & he shouldn’t have to “take a break from his family”. Don’t make him chose between his family & you. You’re doing the right thing by avoiding confrontation with this family member, but remember they are his family & he still needs them as well as you. He should stand up for you tho, but that doesn’t mean cutting out his family it means telling them to stop being rude.
