Honestly the age gap between kids has nothing to do with how close they are going to be. I know siblings that are a year apart that hate each other, and siblings that are ten years apart that are best friends. I’d focus less on age gap and just do it when it feels right for you :)

I like 18-24 months. My first two boys are 21 months apart. Third boy (who was accidentally conceived years early) will be 21.5 months younger than my (now) middle son. 
I've loved their age gap. They are 3 and 20 months now. My oldest is a really great big brother. He's never been jealous and always liked to help however he could. And he gets so excited when his brother learns new things. 
I originally wanted larger age gap between two and three. At least until my oldest was in school, then have 3 and 4 close together. But this one decided to come early. 
My husband and his brothers are less than 2 years apart. Then my sister and I are 19 months apart. So that's why we wanted a close age gap for our kids too.

My kids are two years apart and I like the age gap because it makes planning easier for a lot of things. But for sibling relationship, the age gaps between my siblings and myself range from two years to ten years, and I am close with them all! So I don’t think it makes a huge difference.

I want my kids close in age as well. But growing up I was 15 months apart in age from my sister and we did not get along at all. We’re adults and still not friends and hardly talk to each other all year. But my little brother and I are 6 years apart and are best friends. We were always close growing up and did everything together even when I was a teenager and he was little. So the age gap has little to do with how close your kids will be

If I have a child before my son turns 3 I honestly will feel more negative than positive emotions. We plan to try for #2 January 2022, our son turn 3 August 2021.
