Do you believe in home births ?

Question

Me personally I do not believe in having a baby at home. Too many complications could go wrong. What do you think?

Why risk it? 
All through pregnancy we do what's best for baby. 
Limit this, don't do this, take this, go to check ups, ect. 
There are just to many things that could go wrong, or could result in either mom or babies death if they aren't around medical professionals.
Just a big No for me.

A lot of women here are uneducated and don’t realize that home births are not unassisted. You are accompanied by a medical professional, a midwife has about the same qualifications as the nurse practitioner at your OBs office (the can do prenatal care and catch babies for the doc). So you are never in an unsafe situation. Your midwife is usually certified at a specific local hospital in case something does go wrong so that you can get to triage quickly. 
Home births are completely safe and I absolutely believe in them if you have the proper care team. Please educate yourselves on fetal and maternal death rates in hospitals compared to home births and you will be horrified by your own misinformation.  I personally will choose a birth center partnered with a hospital but I don’t believe hospitals are for healthy people. Hospitals are for sick people. Pregnancy is not a sickness. 🤷🏽‍♀️ everyone is conditioned by fear-mongering to believe otherwise though.

I had a very normal pregnancy, but baby went into distress and I needed an emergency c section. I feel it's like driving without a seat belt....most likely you'll be fine if all goes well, but if the unexpected happens, it can be very risky. Even if a birthing center is say 5 minutes from the hospital, okay, but they still have to admit you, get you hooked up to an iv, book an OR, page an anesthesiologist and OB...all that takes time.

I am weird and need the comfort of the nurses and doctors around me. If I was at home and something happens/goes wrong, I’d probably exacerbated the situation by completely freaking out, and going into panic (just because I know my reaction and as much as I try to remain calm, I can’t.) I had an emergency csection with my first and will be doing an elective repeat with my May baby. However, home births do look beautiful and very relaxing. 😌

Not for me. If you want to, more power to ya. I personally wouldn’t want to and if I had with my first, there’s no telling what would have happened to her. It was because of the medical team and equipment on hand that I was able to safely deliver my baby vaginally. Even then, it was just barely. I almost had to have a c-section because of what what happening.

Midwifes are trained to take care of you no matter where you are. You CANNOT have an at home birth if there are red flags during your pregnancy. Same goes for a birthing center. If you are in any way high risk, you will need to give birth in a hospital. I gave birth at a birthing center, all natural, bc it’s what I wanted and i believe in doing things that way. My second will be at home. I grew up with doing everything naturally so I carry it on into my life now. 
Birthing centers are awesome bc they are usually right next to a hospital that they can take you to if something goes wrong. I know a woman whose baby was way too big to come out of the canal (her first and he was 10 or 11 pounds) and they got her to the hospital for a C section. A back up plan is always needed and assembled anyways.

The why, in 2 words? Safety, and trust. I feel safe at home, and I trust my midwives. I do not trust the local hospital, I do not consider it a safe place.
My state has some of the highest requirements for midwives, they really know what they're doing, and are equipped with almost everything the doctors use. You have to meet various requirements to be eligible for home birth, such as being low risk, and within a reasonable distance to a hospital just in case of transfer. I had 2 midwives at my birth, one who's been practicing for over 30 years, and her apprentice who was about to graduate (my baby was the last one she needed to catch to complete the requirements, it kinda made it extra special). I felt safer at home under their care than I would have at the hospital. Why? Because our local hospital's L&D sucks. They've got terrible ratings. Most people I know who had to birth there had awful experiences, anyone who had the option went to the "better" hospital 40 minutes away. "Better" is relative; their L&D ratings are only slightly higher, and before covid they were partially shut down due to a serious rat infestation, yikes. Both places have a bad track record for unnecessary interventions. So for me, home was the best choice. And it went great! 
To address previous commenters on the issues of mess and people trying to show up during labor: Water birth, and don't tell people you're in labor. The latter is a rule to live by even if you're in the hospital.

I had a wonderful pregnancy. I wanted to birth at home. Well. If I had we would both be dead. I had less than 10 min to havr my baby out. Couldn’t that at home. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had been on close monitoring too. You can’t catch everything
