Contractions stopped?

So I had consistent contractions for around 8 hours, coming every 5-6 minutes lasting around 40seconds. Very mild but tightening like a wave and as it eased it went to my back and gave me back ache. I thought it was early labour and hopefully active labour would start soon. But they stopped about 2 hours ago. Is this normal? Has anyone had this and gone into labour soon?
Just want to add it definitely wasn’t braxton hicks. It made me have diarrhoea 3x (tmi sorry) and i drank water, changed position and went downstairs and it didn’t stop them.

With the baby that I just delivered that happened. They were coming every 2 to 4 minutes and lasting a minute for six hours. When I took a bath they stopped for an hour when I got out they started back. When I laid down to rest I stopped it took 30 minutes to come back. So I ended up standing in my kitchen cooking for hours.I finally laid down because I was exhausted and went to sleep around 10 o’clock that night. I woke up with the urge to pay and a contraction around 1 :30 AM￼ went to the bathroom and the contractions immediately started lasting two minutes and coming every minute. I delivered an hour later￼

With my first baby, I had consistent contractions all night, then come morning, it became sporadic. 24 hours later, I had more consistent contractions until my water broke.

I had this around 38 weeks. I had been 4 cm dilated for a week and had a membrane sweep. We ate spicy food at my moms house and later that night at home I could feel the start of them. I timed them and my husband went upstairs to try to sleep. I wasn’t tired yet and was just reading a book. They started to get pretty bad and lasting longer. When it got to the point an hour or so later that they were really close, I went upstairs to get our diaper bag and car seat and planned to wake my husband. I grabbed the phone to call L&D and I realized after I was up and moving around, they’d stopped. I still talked to the hospital and they said it was false labor but to call back if things got more intense and no longer stopped. I was bummed because I knew they wanted to induce when I hit 40 weeks due to my blood pressure. I would have been 39 weeks two days later. The contractions never started again and I was induced a week later.

It's called padromal labor or false labor where it starts and then stops before active labor. I had it and went to the hospital and they only admitted me because I was a C-section and because I had dilated from closed to a fingertip in an hour.

Probably were contractions to bring Baby down but not start labor. Actually pretty common!
