Amniocentesis worth the risk?

I just found out my husband and I are both carriers for CF. I know amniocentesis is an option to find out if baby is CF positive. Just wondering if anyone has done it? I read it’s risky so I’m scared to go through with it. Also wondering what this first visit with maternal fetal medicine dr is going to be like - so any experience with this stuff is appreciated . Thanks :).

With you both being carriers, baby has a 25% chance of having CF, a 50% chance of being a carrier, and a 25% chance of not having it or being a carrier. Personally, I would wait and have my baby tested after birth and avoid the risk associated with the amino.

I think it depends. 
For me personally I'd only ever get one done if I felt my baby may have a condition where I thought it was best not to continue the pregnancy. If I know I'm going to have my baby regardless then I don't think it's worth the risk

Is there any treatment you would need before baby is born if they do have CF? Will the diagnosis of CF change your mind about whether to continue the pregnancy or not? (I don’t know how far along are you) Those are the questions I would consider in whether to get an amniocentesis. If both of those questions are no I would probably just wait until the baby is born to know for sure, but prepare during my pregnancy for the possibility.

Thanks y’all , I’m planning on opting out bc like you’r saying I’m not going to terminate regardless so the risk wouldn’t be worth it.

You should be able to do a blood panel around 10 weeks that will screen the baby's DNA for CF. It will come back with a pretty accurate probability
