Pumping colostrum during pregnancy? Does it increase milk supply after birth?

Hey moms! After my first pregnancy I didn't produce any breast milk (like at all). And I just read about pumping colostrum during pregnancy to get a supply started or to donate, etc. 
I was wondering if you all thought this would increase my chances to produce milk after baby is born? 
I haven't done it yet, but I do have a pump to use. So idk if I'll even get any colostrum. 
What do you think about it?

I wouldn’t pump before baby arrives, it can cause labor. 
Milk can take 5-7 days to fully come in. When your placenta detaches your brain sends the message to your brain, which tells your boobs to get to work. 
Be patient with your body, stay hydrated, & be sure to eat. You got this!

I pumped starting at 38+ weeks and idk that it affected my milk supply, but it definitely helped my colostrum supply! the nurse in the hospital said she never sees someone able to express so much colostrum. so as long as you’re full term, i would do it. not only can it induce labor (it didn’t for me, but for some people it works) but i think it really helped to have a lot of colostrum.

No, colostrum production has nothing to do with potential milk supply. Milk production and supply do not start until the placenta is detached from the uterus. The best way to ensure a good milk supply is to latch baby as often as they desire for as long as they desire (every two hours at minimum until back at birth weight).

My midwives encouraged harvesting colostrum but not pumping it (this is in case you were to have a preemie or a baby with jaundice that needs a bit of extra).  So if you can hand express any, you can save that, but don’t pump it out.
