Anyone else have a LO that tries to run away when you go for walks?

What are your best strategies?
He ignores me if I call his name and gets very upset if I try to make him hold hands. When we cross roads I usually end up having to carry him.

I would take him to a park or a safe place and let him take the lead on the direction to explore. Kids don’t get the whole “walk straight down the sidewalk” and want to explore the world and boundaries.

Yes, I do!She just goes and doesn’t turn if I call her, she is not scared of me not being  around.I hope is just a phase.

I let my boy go pretty far, within sight. If he gets too far, I say bye to him and start to walk "home", he will 99% of the time run back to me. The other 1% he will just stop and wait for me. 
We live in a very safe area with lots of families and know a lot of people at least by sight so I feel comfortable letting him go far-ish, but I think it would work at any distance tbh, just a bit of practice and standing firm - no chasing or they think it's a game.

I’m struggling with this too! It helps me when I tell my daughter “either you hold my hand or we have to go home”. This works about 90% of the time, the 10% of the time is a tantrum and me having to carry her home.

Ask him to help you walk by holding your hand? “I need help crossing the street can you hold mommy’s hand and help me look both ways?” My son tries to run across the street to see the neighbors dog, I’m trying to teach him to wave instead of running over there. It’s a work in progress.
