How long to get pregnant once you got your fertility check?

Question

For those of you who struggled to conceive and went to the doctor after trying for a year-ish... what was the process like for you after you went? How long did it take for you to fall pregnant, and what ultimately got you pregnant? What things didn’t work?
We’ve been TTC almost a year and I have an appointment with my midwife in a few weeks. I just want to know what to expect... like in terms of, what tests will she do first? What suggestions might she make and how quickly can I do them (like will she jump straight to IUI or IVF or something, or are there other things we’ll try first)?
I know everyone’s experience is different of course, because different doctors, and different causes for fertility issues... but please just share your experiences... I’m really nervous and I just want to be pregnant already! I want to hear some hopeful stories and get an idea of what I’m in for with this fertility process...

I started at a fertility clinic about a year ago. My husband and I were trying for four years. I have one previous healthy normal pregnancy. We started with a consultation and then I went on to have my numbers looked at through blood tests on day 3 of period and then day 21 after period. Hubby had sperm assessment. I also went for a HSG after that ..(where they check your Fallopian tubes to make sure they are not blocked. When I had this done my tubes were fine but they found a polyp on my uterus. I had to have a surgery to have that removed in October. Then I gave myself some time to heal (I felt fine like a week later but knew my body was healing.) then with COVID everything shut down.. about four days before appointments were opening back up I got a BFP. I’m assuming my polyp was stopping me from getting pregnant previously. You will learn lots over this time .. and it very well could be something simple you just need a little assistance with.

When clomid didn’t work for me I went in to get the HSG test done at 8 months of trying and my husband did a sperm test. 
We went to a fertility clinic for the results and learned he had an issue where his sperm was shaped poorly and while we could get pregnant it would be like “cutting a steak with a plastic butter knife” instead of a steak knife. 
We decided to sign up for IUI first to try since it was much cheaper. 
We got pregnant at 13 months of trying and our positive the day before our IUI consultation lol. 
It’s terrifying. I know. But just keep trying and get all the answers you can!

Not to scare you, but from first fertility visit to first pregnancy was 10 years for us. They will start with blood tests and a few more invasive anatomical tests. Then they proceed to things like Clomid with timed intercourse, then IUI, then IVF. Depending on the problem, your time to success could be longer or shorter. They should do an AMH test early. If not, then you should insist. If that result is very low then consider accelerating treatment. You can stay at the timed intercourses stage for a long time or skip it, for example.
