Any other type one diabetics out there?

Question

I am a type one diabetic diagnosed at 19 months old in 1999. I am 17 years old and am facing the challenges of an unplanned pregnancy while trying to keep my blood sugars under control and graduate high school. I hope to connect with other mamas with type one diabetes to share experiences and talk about the challenges we are facing. I am going to a specialized OB clinic called Sweet Success designed to help diabetics have a safe and complication free pregnancy. I would also like to talk to other type one diabetics for a more personal support. 👣❤️

I am on a pump and i do have a dexcom although I only wear it occasionally. My last a1c which was before I found out that i am pregnant was 6.5 I hope that when they test it again that it is still good. I'm glad to hear that if my a1c is good that I'm less likely to have complications thank you both for commenting.

Me! Got it at 17. Got pregnant the first time at 19. On purpose. Back then pregnancy with diabetes sounded like a death sentence so I decided sooner was better before my health was shot. I was wrong. So many improvements through the years for us.  I'm now 43 and pregnant with my 6th! I've kept good numbers pretty much all my life and have no problems. (Except maybe for 6 months after weaning each time when I give myself a break after working so hard at perfect numbers for each kiddo.) They've all been trouble free. Hardest part for me is how much weight I gain every time. Feels like I'm pretty much always just skimming over a low number, so there's a lot of grazing going on. Lol. Test! Test! Test! I have a Dexcom now and LOVE IT! Two of my kiddos have it too. My 15 year old son got it at 6. My 11 year old daughter when she was 4. Are you on a pump?

That's a great place to start from! My A1c right before was 6.6. Last one at 12 weeks was 6.  A little high for me during pregnancy. Usually it runs around 5.4 to 5.7 when I'm carrying. I HIGHLY recommend you go full time on the Dexcom during pregnancy. It's a little too delayed and too far off on the upper and lower ends to replace finger sticks, but it's great at perfecting basals by seeing what happens at different times of day/night. And your basals will change a lot and often.

I don't have type 1 but am early onset gestational diabetic, also I'm a nurse. Do you have a pump? That helps monitor blood sugars better and keep insulin where it is supposed to be with all the hormones during pregnancy. Also, if your A1C is less than 7 you are at no increased risk than the general public, if it is a bit higher then there are risks but it is manageable. Hope your pregnancy goes well!!!
