Bladder infection 15 weeks pregnant

I went for a drive around the mountains and I didn’t drink wwater that half day as I was worried I had to go pee. Next day I got menstrual kind of cramps and repeated for another day around the same time. I also notice clear watery discharge so called the doc asked if it is something to be concerned about and I was asked to go to ER to make sure it was not water leakage. So i went there ultrasound looked fine but the urine sample showed bladder infection. I was prescribed antibiotic nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) 100mg twice every day. I googled up this antibiotic and there are mixed opinions on it that it may cause birth defects. Anyone familiar with this antibiotic? Can I treat my bladder infection at home? I have no burning sensation at all while peeing)
