Great white savior complex?

Question

Do you think the media focuses on white people in the protests and morphs them into a sort of great white savior complex? Meaning, do you think the media makes white people in protests seem as though they're "saving the day" by joining in the protests? I hope that makes sense and doesn't offend, I mean absolutely no offense. The black community does NOT need a GWS and I'd like the think at least most white people participating in the protests are there to help effect change, I'm just curious if you think the media has been making it seem a little GWSC-ish. Thoughts?

The media doing it? Definitely! Especially white lead media. Is that the overall desire from white protestors? I doubt it. I think many of them are genuinely here for the fight and for the oppression to end. But yes the media will paint them as the ones who came to save the day and will focus on them as the peaceful protestors and pain the poc protestors as the ones who start the riots. But that’s the media for you 🤷🏽‍♀️

I agree. We need to see more stories like this! There are amazing people of all races stepping out in different ways putting forth a positive message. I can’t imagine the white people there looking for attention or to be a GWS.

Most of the white people i saw interviewed were very uncomfortable doing so and would say something along the lines of “you don’t need my perspective. I’m not black.”

This morning CNN kept showing groups of white people volunteering to “sweep up after violent protests”.  🙄.  The wording that was used with the videos they were showing made me cringe.  I Don’t think this example is specifically what you’re speaking to, but generally yes.

Yes this is a thing. 
There comes a time where being an ally you have to speak up. I’m starting to notice a lot of my friends that are black having scheduled social media times, a lot of them are absent, others are staying on too long. They’re getting exhausted. This is where I would come in defending the truth of what they say, sharing events, sharing safe spots,    
Most of the angles you have to let people speak for themselves and stop patronizing because if not, it’s still backhanded racism. 
There are a LOT of people obsessed with ‘being a good white’ and they go above and beyond their place just to try and prove they aren’t racist but it’s not okay. 
If your vocal support silenced whoever you’re supporting, it’s not support. 
I’m UNFORTUNATELY seeing this in the makeup world. 
There’s been a lot of WHITE people showing support with distasteful makeup looks, and when they are corrected the lash out, cry, throw a temper tantrum, and say EVERYONE ELSE is wrong. Definitely white savior complexes in their heads.

I think I’m more interested in the rioters/looters who were linked to white supremacist groups, or how there are cops destroying the protesters milk or stealing their water.
And this is no way conspiracy talk. This is factual.

On the news, I see black and white people peacefully protesting and rioting, I see black and white people setting shit on fire, I see black and white people hurting other people, I see black and white people getting dragged off and arrested. 
I haven’t seen any white people portrayed as heroes. The only ones I’ve seen interviewed are black people, whether they’re participating in the riots or trying to get them to stop.

The group I've been following have white people in front, in back and on the sides because they know that police are less likely to shoot at them without a moment's hesitation. It's not a complex, it's an unfortunate reality, and that's the point of these protests. The media constantly fucks things up.

The media might do it but I think the people protesting of all colours genuinely care and are over this shit.
