Egg allergy/sensitivity

Melanie

Does anyone have any experience with egg allergies? We’ve been slowly introducing the major allergens to my daughter (7.5 months) and all was good until yesterday. We gave her scrambled eggs for the first time. She loved them, but 10 minutes later her face was red and blotchy, mostly around her mouth. I wouldn’t call them hives. They weren’t raised and didn’t seem to bother her. They also weren’t anywhere else on her body. I called the doctor’s office and was able to get a telemedicine call with her pediatrician about 30 minutes later. He asked a bunch of questions about whether she was having trouble breathing, swallowing, if she vomited, etc. She didn’t have any of those symptoms. He said that he didn’t think it was an allergy and thought that she probably just has sensitive skin. He advised me to do a skin test with the egg whites and yolks separate and see if there is any difference in how she reacts to that versus putting another food that we know she’s not allergic to on her skin. Later that day she had her first ever teething rash so I kind of put the egg thing out of my mind and figured maybe I overreacted and any redness on her face was due to teething. Anyway, fast forward to today. I did the skin test with egg whites on one arm and avocado on the other. After a few minutes, the egg white arm was definitely red and the other arm wasn’t. Again, nothing major. It was just red and looked like it would if she squeezed her arm really hard for a few minutes and was back to normal about 20 minutes later. Has anyone else had this? Did it turn into an actual allergy or is this such a minor reaction that I shouldn’t worry? We literally eat eggs EVERY DAY and seems like such a difficult allergy to manage because eggs are in so many things!
