How long did it take you to get over your ex?

I broke up with my first bf a few days ago. 
We dated for 4 years. I know there’s no definite time, but I’m just wondering how long it took you guys. 
Also any tips to help you move on? 
I’m thinking of just diving into my online classes and work and see friends when I can but my friends are really flaky...

My first boyfriend was also 4 years. My first kiss, first person to hold my hand and the one that took my virginity. I felt like my world had ended and it took a while to heal. I think with people that you spend so much time and effort with..well you'll always love/care them, but wont be in love with them. They'll always be a part of your history, but in a way that you can learn from. Things dont work out for a reason, and it's okay to move on. There isnt a timeline, you're right. Take time for yourself, do what makes you happy. Dont surround yourself with more stress or unreliable people if you think your friends will flake

My first boyfriend, I was over it before it ended. He was manipulative and sexually abusive. However for my other exes it took a good amount of time. I had to see my self worth and realize they were shit and didn’t deserve me. One I got over within a few months. Another honestly took years because he kept popping up in my life randomly and I’d let him. When I stopped letting him and reminded myself of everything he put me through, it was fairly easy actually because he was trash

My first love, I didn’t fall in love until I was 30, and I was with him a year and a half, cheated, and it took me a year and a half to get over him. My second love at 33 or 34 I can’t remember, we dated 4 years, I was emotionally attached to to having two miscarriages at 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 months. He basically just used me those for years and pretty much slept with half of our state. He proudly admit it to me in the end that he had slept with over 250 women in the five years that we were together. While I was out working, he was entertaining women. He couldn’t keep jobs, he was irresponsible, he was bipolar, I felt bad and guilty and want to help him, but all I did was fix him up for the next woman. I miss him every single day. I missed my daughter, I missed the life I would’ve had, but any silent moment that I had in my head, what would go through it is I miss jack ass, I don’t even mention his name anymore. Things ended December 2017. I took all of 2018 to work on myself and heal inside and out, I lost 95 pounds that I had gained from eating out every single night and the 2 miscarriages. By 2019 I started dating again. Two guys that were a waste of time. One just wanted in my pants and had no common sense or a filter. And the other a liar. Claimed that he was separated from his wife and I checked his wife’s Facebook and they were celebrating their 10 year anniversary at an eagles game. So that ended. By October 2019 I started dating the man that I have been with since then. I warned him that I was not over my ex that I missed him daily and apologized of I called him by his name. By February 2020 I was over jackass. I deleted the pictures and phone numbers and stopped missing him. I only missed the man that I was with. I never think about jackass. I moved on. It takes time. To heal. To stop missing them. Sometimes ya gotta replace them. You keep yourself busy and spend time with friends and family or walk dogs or babysit they will comfort you. You volunteer, feed the homeless at a soup kitchen or read to blind or children in a daycare or habitat for humanity etc. sometimes you just need a change of prospective and not focus on yourself but on others instead. You read books. You try journaling or yoga or exercise or screaming into a pillow or daily affirmations or seek therapy or medication if you need to. You do what you gotta do. You learn an instrument. You learn to paint or do ceramics etc. keep yourself busy that’s the best thing that you can do.

Just remind yourself it’s for the best, because there is a lesson in this experience but the best is yet to come! Be excited for what the future brings.
