What’s a dating scan??

I see people talking about it and I’m curious. I know I’m scheduled for one Thursday I’ll be 36 weeks. But from what my doc said it seem like it’s an appt were they see how Big baby is and after they do a few swabs of my front and back. But on my other appointments they usually measure my belly and baby HR, they say baby is measuring 39 weeks at my last appt. I’m curious do a dating scan determine if they induce you early? or idk.

Dating is usually to determine due date and to see babies initial growth, usually done between 8-12 weeks. 
I'm going to assume you're going in for a growth scan, which is where they look at the growth and development of baby. Usually to see if there's weight concerns, but it's also routine for a lot of countries. 
I highly doubt they'll induce, if your were high risk or had gestational diabetes maaaybe? Or they might schedule you for a c-section if you had those issues? But measuring big doesn't mean a lot considering they're a lot of guessing and can be inaccurate for weight.

A dating scan is when they see when you’re EDD is. Those are usually at 8-12 weeks. What you’re talking about is a growth scan.
