Ovulation question

So we’ve tried for two months.... long story but we’ve been trying for almost a year technically... we’ve had miscarriage and ectopic. Anywho we just started again tubes are fine... my question is last cycle we had sex almost every day in my green window (all diff times of days... 3 days, day off, 4 days... ) during the 4 day stretch I peak ovulated so I was sure we got it! But nope

So my question is what is tricks to hitting thats peak? Every other day the minute period stops? Do you not have sex too much before higher fertility? What am I dojng wrong? Lol
