Can I breastfeed & formula feed at the same time?

Question

First time mom here. & id love to breastfeed, but I also would like to formula feed for when it’s convenient or if baby is with family. I probably wouldn’t start formula feeding until a few weeks after birth but you never know. I’m just curious as to if that’s something people do?
EDIT : Thank you all for your replies! I think ill breastfeed for as long as I’m able to or am comfortable with, and then switch to formula if I feel it’s right 💕

Sure. You can do whatever works for you and your baby. We started doing 1 bottle of formula at night at 4 months and slowly transitioned to doing formula full time by 8 months.
Just know that adding formula will very likely negatively impact your supply. If you’re okay with that, then absolutely go for it! If you want to keep your supply up then you should still pump every time Baby gets a formula bottle.

My sister did!
She really wanted to breastfeed, but wasn’t producing enough. She would breastfeed as much as she could and supplement formula when she wasn’t producing. Baby was perfect, healthy and full!

Yes. But read into it. You need to still keep your supply up. And on for ula, it is possible to overfeed a baby.

I was reading that baby needs to be on the breast as much as possible to tell your body "this is how much I need" and baby steadily needs more until about 3 or 4 months. After that, your supply is generally established according to what I was reading.
Id definitely talk to a lactation consultant about it and read up on how your milk supply works.

Some people do. But if you plan to breastfeed, why not just pump also and use that for when family wants to feed baby?
