Sexting?

So the special guy in my life has been going through a lot, he's been very lost on what he wants to do for his career and juggling 2 jobs.  We were a thing for a little over a year until he said he just wanted to be friends, for right now. I think eventually we will fall right in love with eacjother like every single time. But, I've talked to a couple of girls he has tried to sext and he got one of them to agree. A day later, he told her he didn't want to talk to her anymore and he is just lost.  What does this all mean? He can do whatever he wants, We are just friends .. But he is beyond lost he started vaping, something he also swore as a young child he'd never do. Do you guys think he is very lost and doesn't know where to turn or .. What?? Any wise words from people experienced with relationships. I am 16 and am trying to handle this as best possible.
