D&C ????

ladies who have done them??? i’ve had 2 miscarriages on my own at home and they sucked so i’m thinking of the procedure... what are you opinions if you had one or experienced a procedure and hime miscarriage.... please let me know before i do this????  thankyou

My sister had two mc before I had my first, the first she did a D&C, the second she passed at home on her own. So when I had my first, she was my first call because I didn’t know what to do. She said doing it on her own at home (with pills) was much harder than a D&C. So I opted to do the D&C. 
For my second, I had to wait from the time I found out I had miscarries to the time I could get in for a D&C almost a month! It killed me knowing I was still “pregnant” technically but the baby inside wasn’t living. It was so hard. I would go for a D&C again if I had to.

My first miscarriage I tried the pills and it was a traumatic experience. I ended dip getting the D&C even after the pills so this second time around I Just did the D&C. The recovery is a little longer and I was put to sleep during it but it was over in a day versus the pills that dragged on for a week.

We found out our baby had stopped growing at 11 weeks due to Trisomy 18 and made the painful decision to get a D&C. I remember some of the procedure but it’s kind of blurry. The physical pain/procedure takes 5-10 mins. I bled for maybe an hour after and had no complications. It sucked overall and mentally, but I’d rather do that then pass the baby at home.

First off, I am so sorry for your losses. I started to miscarry at home but had to go to the hospital because I wouldn’t stop bleeding (soaking through an XL pad every 10-15 min for over an hour) and the d&c was over pretty quickly but it wasn’t a good experience. I also opted out of morphine which they offered me so it could probably have been better than what it was. Also, it was an emergency procedure rather than a scheduled one so there might be other options for you such as IV sedation (I don’t know if this is true, just guessing). If that were the case I’d probably do that. I had almost no bleeding immediately after the procedure, just a minuscule amount of spitting for a few days if that. I then got my period 5 weeks later. It may be worth noting I was approximately 9 weeks along (going by LMP) and baby stopped growing around 6 weeks.. I think the further along you are the more complicated it can be. Good luck 💙

Out of my 4 first tri losses; our last one we opted for the D&C so that we could do genetic testing on the fetus. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had done a D&C every time.

Our 3rd loss was our d&c and was a horrendous experience. My first d&c was Aug 24th 2017. Ended up in the e.r. a month later from pain. Confirmed retained products after I was told by my dr there couldn't be because my d&c was done with ultrasound assistance. I was given Cytotec to help pass everything. I didn't. Nov 3rd I needed a repeat d&c because my body still wouldn't pass everything. Dec 6th my hcg finally hit 3 and we thought our nightmare was done. Nope. Dec 28th (yes 4 full months later) I was at work and it felt like I was in labor. Ultrasound and they told me it was a blood clot. Sent me home with more Cytotec and pain medicine. 10 mins later I passed a calcified mass of retained products the size of a golf ball. It wasn't attached to anything and had been floating around inside of me for 4 months. It was finally over. Our 1st loss was a blighted ovum that passed without medicine all on its own at home. Our 2nd I needed 2 rounds of the methotrexate injection for an ovarian pregnancy. I wish I had been given more options. I know what happened is super rare and crazy. But I wouldn't wish for anyone to go through that hell.
