Depends on the couple. If you’re both willing to put in the work it takes, yes it definitely can help.

If you get a good counselor. You May have to shop for a good one. We had one that liked to listen to himself more than us.

It's working for us. We each have our own counselor, some weeks mine sees us both (couldn't find a 3rd with any availability so it's what we had to do). And we are each putting in the work on ourselves, as well as the work on our relationship. It has taken about a year to get to a place where we feel we are so on the same page, communicating often and clearly, and happy the majority of the time. We still have some issues we will continue to work on though.
