how many baby clothes to get?

ftm here: trying to figure out how many baby clothes I actually need for August. I see some mommy bloggers who have an entire walk in closet full (more than I own) and other say don’t buy a lot of newborn outfits.
Right now we don’t have a lot and my shower by mail idea hasn’t gotten a lot of traction bc only 2 people have bought gifts off our registry. 
I know babies get changed multiple times a day bc of blowouts so wanting to know how many newborn outfits and how many 0-3 month outfits we should have ready to go?

People just like to say their child gets changed a couple times a day. We rarely ever changed our son as a newborn after putting on his first outfit. One little spit up spot doesn’t mean the outfit is ruined for the day. I suggest about ten onesies, same with pants and throw in a couple shorts but really you want to protect their skin . Then buy some outfits you plain just think are adorable. Newborns really just wear onesies to bed but still pick out about 5-7 cute pjs. Keep it small cause you have no idea what size your baby woll grow out the fastest and the size they will stay in the longest and it’s all about learning your baby and you’ll find what you really need. Socks for newborns, don’t bother with shoes unless you wanna play dress up or doing pictures.

I have 5 onesies that are newborn. My last two babies were both born over 8 lbs though so they were out of newborn quick. I also do a load of laundry every day typically.  The thing with newborn clothes is to keep it simple. They just need onesies or gowns. Same for 0-3 months, but double the amount.

I barely bought newborn, just 5 in total as 0-3 months will probably fit at the beginning and last longer we have around 20 different outfits

Start small and you can always add more as needed. My rule of thumb is go by how often you do laundry. If you do laundry more weekly then think like 7 onesies, pants/shorts to match, 7 sleepers, and maybe a couple cute outfits. Once baby is here you can really gauge what you need. Not all babies are spit up and blow out monsters; I had friends who changed their babies 3x a day but my daughter we rarely changed her outfit more than once a day.

My first was in nb clothes for at least a month. My fourth was in them for 2 days. Honestly she didn’t even fit them that long but I tried. 
I’m also more of a jammy mama , my babies usually live in them. But because this next one is due I’ve made sure to have a few shirts (frees up cord for healing) and onesies. I still have my jammies though.

I got less nb this time because my last two babies didnt fit nb at birth. I just wanted enough for just in case baby was smaller. But that is me pre-knowing how big my babies get.

I bought plain white onesies because they are cheapest then tie dyed them. 
Side note: I like jammies with feet’s so I don’t have to keep track of baby socks or find lost socks for cold toes. In the winter I often put jammies on as an under layer for pants or overall’s or dresses. The jammie gives overalls and dresses matching undershirt and “socks” completing an outfit without extra work. In the last few years companies are making more jammies and outfits without footies. I think they do this so moms feel like they have to buy separate clothes for day and night when there isn’t a reason to do that since babies spend so much time sleeping. The lack of feet also make purchasing socks more necessary, and puts more pressure on moms to get shoes. It’s about the money. I use to be able to find more packs of jammies for 3-7 jammies with feet.. now they sell half of them individually and a good chunk of them without feet.

We’re having our second boy. I literally just washed and put away the clothes. 
We have 5 plain newborn onesies, 3 cute complete outfits, and like 6 newborn gowns (my first lived in these since it’s much easier to change diapers in them) 
We have 15-20 0-3M onesies and 4 gowns. A few outfits with pants/shorts (5-6 perhaps). We had the most blowouts in this size.

I bought about 10 newborn onesies, 2 cute outfits, and 10ish sleepers with a few gowns. My 1st was tiny and we literally bought a few newborn stuff and ended up having to buy more when he was a few days old because he was in NB a lot longer than anyone figured and was needed more clothes.

It all depends on how often you do and are willing to do laundry a day as well. 
I do laundry almost every day anyways, so I took a more minimal approach to baby clothes after my first child. 
I’m currently pregnant with my 4th baby my first 3 kids were all 8lbs+ at birth so we do a handful (maybe 10 total) nb outfits, just in case a lot of changes happen or whatever the case may be. 
And close to 25-30 0-3 months outfits since they are in those a little longer. For outfits I mean onesies and sleepers basically. 
After that I buy as I need to, to save money and also not have a bunch of clothes that never get worn.

We didn’t change our son multiple times a day until he was out of newborn and in 0-3. Then he started having the blowouts and spitting up more. Not really looking forward to that part again haha. It’s so hard to know how long they’ll be in newborn. We have maybe 2 weeks worth of newborn clothes since we do laundry fairly often.
