When do you plan to take maternity leave?

My work is wondering when I want my last day of work to be before I go on maternity leave. I’m a caregiver and they will be looking for someone to take over my shifts. When did you/do you plan to work until? Do you plan to just work up until the baby is born?

I worked up until my due date. I wanted to save all my time for when I could actually spend it with my baby after birth.

I’m going on leave one week before due date. Working from home at the moment but my job is high stress so I wanted a week (hopefully) to relax

I was planning to work until I went into labor but two days away from being 39 weeks I nearly didn’t pass an NST for blood pressure and they scheduled me to be induced two mornings later so I went into work the day in between, got my sub plans lined up/said goodbye to the kids, and then got induced that next morning. It should still be your choice when even if you don’t know when for sure. They’ll need to have someone lined up.

Not sure where you live but I’m in NY and couldn’t receive maternity leave, paid family leave, or any other benefits until I actually had my baby, even with a doctor pulling me from work due to being overdue. I planned to use leave the week of due date thinking at most he’d be a couple days late. I ended up taking leave without pay because he wasn’t born until Thursday the following week.

Seeing all these responses from outside the US...I really wish I didn’t live in the US right about now ugh I have to work until my due date because I only have 120 hours of PTO and can’t afford to take time off 😥 so I’ll maybe get a month off, luckily I work from home but it’ll be hard.

In Norway we have to start it minimum three full weeks before the due date.

Before all this Covid I was planning on taking my mat leave 2 weeks before my due date. I am a hairstylist so I decided not to go back to work when my salon opened, so I’ve been off but if that wasn’t the case then for sure 2 weeks before

I’m not sure if it’s different because I’m in the UK and we seem to have much longer maternity leaves than in the US (which was such a shock to me when I joined these forums). But I have two weeks holiday booked when I’m 34-36 weeks pregnant (from before I found out) and I’m either going to go back one week or just head off on mat leave after that. I’ll have 10.5 months off in total so will still have nearly ten months off after baby is born x

I work until baby is born. I rather save my time off with my baby and it’s good to keep moving when pregnant
