Trying to be a better step mom

Julie

So, I’m naturally a very quiet and loving person. Some would say push over, especially with kids!!!

I’m 31 weeks pregnant with a baby who has a rare disease and where we live is small and cramped, and keeping it as clean as possible will be a must in order to give my baby a chance at surviving.

Ive had to start being more assertive with my step daughter when it comes to being cleanly. She’s 11.. young I know.. but she doesn’t wash her hands, she doesn’t change her clothes daily and she refuses to bathe as much as she should. its every 3 days right now if I force her and run her water. She won’t shower.

I’ve already told her, if someone isn’t wearing a clean fresh shirt, they don’t hold the baby. No kisses. The apartment has to be clean and tidy always, as the baby will have machines and I’ll also just be very very busy and I can’t clean up after everyone 24/7.

She’s sorta been doing better.. but for maybe a day until her dad or myself have to bring it up again.

I plan on buying a whiteboard and listing when baths need to happen, and a nighttime cleanup routine.

Any advice from other moms or step moms?
