Leaving hospital with convertible car seat?

Question

We were gifted a 4in1 Graco convertible car seat and we absolutely love the concept of it. However as my due date approaches, I'm worried that the hospital won't let me leave with my baby since the car seat isn't meant to be removed and carried around. Will the hospital allow me to be wheelchaired out of the hospital with baby in my arms while dad pulls the car up to the entrance? Any moms have experience with this? Or nurses with knowledge about this?I plan on calling my hospital for their policies but due to Covid, it's hard to get someone on the line.

My friend had the same car seat as you. After 2 weeks of using that car seat they went to buy an infant car seat and it made everything much easier for them. I couldn’t imagine not having an infant car seat and using a convertible one for when the baby outgrows the infant one. 
As for the hospital I know every hospital has different policies so call and ask. My friend took the convertible one and tried to put it in the car with the baby still in the car seat.. which is a big no. The hospital also said convertible car seats aren’t meant to carry the baby around like an infant one. So I vote for buying an infant car seat. It’ll make it easier for dr appointments and taking it in and out of the car. You won’t be able to do that with a convertible one

I’ve only ever had a convertible car seat. A nurse just had to come down to our car with us to make sure she was strapped in correctly and the car seat was setup correctly as well. 
And my daughter was only 4lbs 9oz when we left.

Can they really force you to stay? I'm not sure that they can but anyways I used a convertible from the get go with my first and three wheelchaired us out to the car where my husband was waiting.

You can’t leave the hospital ward here if you don’t have a car seat you bring in with you but I live in the UK and everything is different here so I would check with your ward x

With my last three babies the hospital had to see baby in the car seat to be able to leave the hospital. I’d call and ask

Every state has different laws. In FL there were NO checks for me. I have one that comes out but we didn’t go down to get it when we were leaving- just wheeled me there and I loaded her into it already in the car.

Call and ask. Each place is different. I have only ever had convertible car seats. I carried baby while they wheeled us down. Checked car seat in car. This was Arizona.

Former L&D/postpartum nurse here. We had parents occasionally have a convertible car seat. Our hospital policy was that baby *had* to be carried out via car seat, which meant that parents had to detach the car seat from the car and bring it inside in order to leave with baby. It was kind of a pain for them, honestly. I had one couple actually call a friend with an extra infant seat and had them bring it to the hospital so they didn’t have to detach the convertible car seat, that might be worth a shot if it feels like too much.

We did the same. Baby needed a car seat test, so husband had to bring in and then put back into vehicle. I remember carrying baby out in my arms and nurse just checked to make sure baby rode rode away safely in car seat. 
I loved doing just one investment, he is about to be 4years old and still can use same seat and same safety

I live in Texas, but it’s different for every hospital. 
I was allowed to leave the car seat in the vehicle, and carry baby but it had to be an infant car seat, they checked and made sure it was strapped in correctly when they wheelchaired me out.
