Why is healthcare so stupid expensive???

Seriously! I thought we were going to fix this? It's only getting worse! Looking at plans for my family, the best we can do with a reasonable deductible (less than 10k) is $800 a month! Seriously? We don't qualify for any assistance either because we supposedly make too much. Don't get me wrong, my hubby has a great paying job (with awful benefits) but between taxes and student loans, we're barely scraping by. And we live quite frugally too. It seems we can either be responsible and pay off our student loans or buy health insurance. And it's not even good health insurance, I just got a bill from having my son for over $6,000! Bah! Rant over! How does anyone afford health insurance?

Because the healthcare lobby (insurance, pharmaceutical, major labs like Quest) has a major presence in our government, and the people most affected by the lack of consumer protection laws (bible belt and other red states) let themselves to get distracted by religiously motivated social issues by their evil state and federal politicians. I mean, listen to all you people saying that you're struggling with income but you're all for viting for Rubio or Carson. It makes no sense.

If Obama really wanted to fix the health care issue he needed to go after the costs of services. There needs to be reasonable caps on what a company can charge. A 15000 ambulance ride is rediculous yet that is what gets billed.

I agree that it sucks right now. My own mom can't afford insurance but she is required to have it or be penalized. She took an early retirement after a family trauma, worked hard her entire life. HOWEVER, we live in a conservative state where our representatives are not willing to take the necessary steps to make it work. People can blame Obama all they want but we should really be pointing our fingers at congress and state representatives that decided a pissing match between republicans and democrats is more important that people having affordable healthcare. If you don't like how it's working in your state think long and hard about who you are choosing to represent you and if you don't vote you might want to start.

Thank god I live in Canada 😝 some of our healthcare is covered by using a health card  however we still have to pay money for the dentist prescription medication physiotherapy and optical

The ACA tanked insurance coverage. Private insurance wasn't great before, but it's way worse, nearly triple the cost and worse benefits. My kids and husband are covered by the military but I pay for my own insurance because I was sick of having no say in my Healthcare under the military coverage. Now I'm paying over double what I was two years ago, with less health problems, and I have absolutely no idea how on earth we are going to afford insurance once my husband retires and the kids are no longer covered.

We always thought the plan through my employer was crappy, but it doesn't seem so bad now that we've explored other options. It's still expensive, but a better deal than what we could getting through the Affordable Care Act. I'm disappointed with the lack of options.

Exactly! After Obama care passed my previously great insurance tanked! I now have a $6000 deductible and have to pay 20% after that. I make to much to qualify for any kind of assistance program and have looked into other private policies and none I've found are actually affordable! If I could afford an extra $700- $1000 a month I could afford to buy a pretty nice house and a second car so hubby and I didn't have to share one....
